Barbara Clarice

Born in 1959, Barbara learned to bead from her elders at age seven. She lives in North Pole, Alaska, and as a young woman spent many years living in the bush, along the Yukon River.

Barbara traveled “outside” and spent six years collecting beads and living a nomadic lifestyle. She uses rare, tiny, antique glass beads, moose hide, and often backs her pieces with salmon skin that she tans and dyes herself.

Her art is unlike any other and the care she puts into each piece is remarkable. Some of them have taken four years to complete.
